Start with the current outline. A familiar clinical topic can appear in a question that asks you to interpret a changing patient, communicate a concern, or decide what comes next. Practice both the knowledge and the task.

01 / Use the current outline

Six domains, with Clinical Judgment at the center.

The official examination is a computerized adaptive test with 110–150 questions, including 20 unscored items. You have up to 3 hours and 30 minutes. You cannot identify the unscored items, so give each question the same careful attention.

Current Paramedic domain ranges
DomainOfficial weightReview focus
Airway, Respiration & Ventilation8–12%Airway assessment, ventilation, capnography, and reassessment.
Cardiology & Resuscitation10–14%Rhythm interpretation, ACS, resuscitation, and cardiovascular support.
Trauma6–10%Hemorrhage, head and spine injuries, thoracic trauma, and burns.
Medical/Obstetrics/Gynecology24–28%Endocrine, neurologic, toxicologic, infectious, and obstetric emergencies.
EMS Operations8–12%Readiness, responder safety, incident management, communication, and ethics.
Clinical Judgment34–38%Recognize and analyze cues, form hypotheses, act, evaluate, communicate, and lead.

Pediatric patient care is integrated throughout the content. Use the official outline for your test date rather than assuming a fixed adult/pediatric split. These ranges describe the test plan; a short practice sample will not reproduce every official weighting.

02 / Read the task

TEI practice begins with the instructions.

National Registry examples include Build List, Drag-and-Drop, and Option/Check Box items. Multiple-response and single-selection questions also appear. Some questions are linked to scenarios. Learn how to operate each control, then keep the patient information and requested task in view.

For ordering, identify prerequisites and what has already happened. For classification, establish what each category means before assigning findings. For a matrix, assess each row against the stated criterion. For multiple select, evaluate every option instead of deciding in advance how many answers should be correct.

AceItPrep supports six practice formats: single choice, image-based questions, multiple select, options boxes, drag and drop, and ordering. This describes our practice interface, not a claim that the Registry defines six TEI categories or uses identical controls.

03 / Understand the numbers

A scaled score is different from a practice percentage.

The Registry describes its passing point as 950 on a 100–1500 scale. A practice percentage cannot be converted directly into that standard. The official adaptive examination and its scoring process are different from a fixed practice set.

04 / Make experience transferable

Explain the decision before memorizing the answer.

Begin with a mixed baseline, then identify the cause of each miss. Was the problem unfamiliar content, a misread finding, the wrong time point, a calculation, or a premature action? The remedy should match the cause. Re-reading a whole chapter may not help if the real habit is skipping the question’s qualifier.

After reviewing a rationale, cover it and explain the decisive clue in your own words. Compare the correct answer with the alternative you found most attractive. Record the condition that separates them. Revisit the concept after a delay and try a fresh scenario, rather than repeatedly chasing a higher score on familiar questions.

Use focused sessions alongside your assigned textbook, program materials, current resuscitation guidance, and applicable protocols. Next Best Action can suggest a saved session, due cards, or a weak subtopic. Keep regular mixed practice in the plan so an unfamiliar domain does not disappear from your review.

05 / Practice sustained attention

A full-length rehearsal should leave you with a review plan.

AceItPrep’s independent Full-Length mode uses 150 questions and 210 minutes, with fixed topic and subtopic quotas across the six domains. It does not reproduce the Registry’s adaptive stopping or scoring. At 150 questions, that overall time averages 84 seconds per question; individual items may take more or less time.

Choose a quiet setting and save explanations for the end when rehearsing. Afterward, separate errors of knowledge from errors of process and fatigue. Review uncertain correct answers too. Choose one concept and one process habit to improve before the next session.

Before your appointment, check identification, authorization, travel, accommodations if applicable, and the current candidate instructions. A practice score supports study planning; the National Registry determines eligibility and certification outcomes.

Your practical questions

NREMT Paramedic preparation, explained.

How many questions are on the current Paramedic examination?

The current official Paramedic CAT contains 110–150 questions, including 20 unscored items, with up to 210 minutes.

Does AceItPrep reproduce the National Registry adaptive exam?

No. Our Full-Length practice is a fixed 150-question, 210-minute session. It supports pacing, coverage, and review without reproducing official adaptive scoring.
